3-Day Zhangjiajie Itinerary: A Relaxed Guide to Core Attractions!

My bestie and I spent three days exploring Tianmen Mountain and Zhangjiajie, averaging 20,000 steps daily – our legs nearly gave out!
So I've compiled this ultra-efficient guide focusing on core attractions with minimal walking!
Girls, follow this to ensure you depart happily and return happily 🏃

Our Journey 🗺️
We took a high-speed train from Changsha straight to Zhangjiajie, arriving in the afternoon. Having pre-booked at Four Famous Buildings Aesthetic Inn (Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park Branch), we were picked up upon arrival. The hotel handled all travel arrangements and tickets – zero stress! After trying the famous local dish Sanxiaguo, we rested to prepare for Tianmen Mountain the next day!
.
📍Tianmen Mountain
One full day suffices, with three route options:
A: Cable car up + express cable down (easiest)
B: Express cable up + main cable down (requires climbing)
C: Round-trip express cable (involves both ascent and descent)
🌟My pick: Route A! Descending is easier than climbing – enjoy views while comfortably winding down.
.
📍Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Best explored over two days to avoid exhaustion.
Day 1: East Gate → Bailong Elevator → Yuanjiajie → Yangjiajie → Tianzi Mountain → Tianzi Cableway back
Day 2: East Gate → Shili Gallery → Golden Whip Stream → Yellow Stone Village → Great Oxygen Bar Square → exit via South Gate
.
Pro Tips:
1️⃣ For Bailong Elevator: Secure a front spot near the glass for best views!
2️⃣ Eco-buses serve all attractions – motion-sickness meds recommended 💊
3️⃣ Beware of monkeys – keep distance
💥 Book tickets early! Student discounts available with ID
💥 Significant temperature variation – pack a jacket
.
📍Food Recommendations:
Must-tries include Tujia smoked bacon, blood tofu, sausages, glutinous rice cakes, cold noodles, and especially Tujia Sanxiaguo (don't miss this signature hotpot!). All hotel-recommended restaurants served delicious meals – we dined repeatedly.
For souvenirs: Zhangjiajie's rock fungus, kudzu powder, and berry tea are famous – I brought some home for friends.
