I heard the Henan government invested a ton of money in this attraction, and after finishing it, I felt it was completely worth it! While the ticket price is a bit high, it's definitely worth it!
Henan is the only city with a large park consisting of 21 theaters. Tickets include free admission to one of three main theaters (which seats 1,000 people). The smaller theaters have one performance per hour, so with proper scheduling, you can see about 3-5 of them. Performances in the smaller theaters are about 20-30 minutes long.
I saw four of the smaller theaters: The Emperor's Six-Player Carriage, Xue Huaiyi, KTV and Dance, and the Railway Station. I really enjoyed The Emperor's Six-Player Carriage and Xue Huaiyi.
The Emperor's Six-Player Carriage tells the story of the weight of history, allowing modern people to encounter the Zhou Emperor through a chance encounter. I was truly moved by the Zhou Emperor's incredible acting when he discovered it was his own tomb. It was because of this play that I was inspired to visit the actual ruins of The Emperor's Six-Player Carriage in Luoyang.
Xue Huaiyi, on the other hand, takes the modern man's desire for a gigolo as a starting point, connecting him to Wu Zetian's male favorite, Xue Huaiyi. The story touches on a wealth of historical events from the time, blending reality with the stage, creating one of the most captivating performances I've ever seen.
Finally, after all the smaller performances, you can head to the open-air theater for the closing performance or light show!
Can Taiwan offer performances of this quality? Yes, but it'll cost you a fortune. This experience is truly worth the price, and I'd be willing to pay even if the ticket price goes up.
I absolutely loved it.
