Zhouzhuang (周庄) is often called “China’s No.1 Water Town”, and it’s famous for its well-preserved ancient architecture, stone bridges, canals, and local culture.
🌊 Why Zhouzhuang Is Popular
1. “Venice of the East”
Zhouzhuang is a classic Chinese water town where canals run through the city like streets.
Locals still use boats for transport, and you can ride gondola-style boats under ancient stone bridges.
2. Well-Preserved Ancient Town
History dates back over 900 years (built in the Northern Song Dynasty).
Many Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1912) dynasty buildings are still intact.
Famous ancient residences like Shen House (沈厅) and Zhang House (张厅) are open for visitors.
