Who would have thought! I spent 3 days in Zhuhai, and when I tallied up the expenses, it was only 400+ RMB. My friends all thought I was living off the sea breeze 🌊 Leak! A big leak! I ate what I should eat and played what I should play, focusing on spending money wisely. Here’s a thrifty guide presented with both hands👇
📅 Itinerary (with a relaxed vibe)
Day 1: Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Port → Love Post Office → Zhuhai Fisher Girl → Sun and Moon Shell
Day 2: Chimelong Ocean Kingdom (budget version) → Lovers’ Road night view
Day 3: New Yuanming Palace → Return trip
💸 Expense Breakdown (every penny spent openly)
▪️ Accommodation: 180 RMB / 2 nights (chose a four-person dorm in a hostel, 10 minutes walk to Lovers’ Road, the owner even gave me a Zhuhai map, who would have thought!)
▪️ Transportation: 85 RMB (covered the whole trip by bus + shared bike, Zhuhai buses often have 90% off coupons with UnionPay QuickPass, a total steal!)
▪️ Tickets: 120 RMB (bought student tickets for Chimelong at half price! New Yuanming Palace is free, strolling around Sun and Moon Shell is free too~)
▪️ Food: 53 RMB (breakfast with buns for 5 RMB, main meals sustained by pig’s trotter rice + seafood porridge, only looked at expensive restaurants but didn’t eat there hhh)
✨ Must-Do List (fun without spending money)
- Love Post Office: free stamps and letter writing, send one to your future self, romantic and free 💌
- Zhuhai Fisher Girl: classic check-in spot, go at 8 AM when it’s very quiet, sunlight on the sea looks like sprinkled gold dust ✨
- Sun and Moon Shell: go at dusk! The sunset dyes the shell-shaped building orange, every photo looks like a masterpiece, and the lights at night are even more amazing 🌃
- Lovers’ Road: rent a shared bike and ride the whole way, feel the sea breeze and watch the waves, saves 50 RMB compared to taking the sightseeing bus!
🍜 Food Guide (budget version)
▪️ Old Xiangzhou Market: 10 RMB seafood porridge with so many ingredients it overflows, the auntie even gives an extra spoonful of shrimp 🦐
▪️ Street stall pig’s trotter rice: 15 RMB fills you up, fatty but not greasy pig’s trotter with pickled vegetables, so tasty you’ll lick the plate 🍚
▪️ Bring your own water bottle: many places in Zhuhai have drinking water fountains, saves money on buying water, eco-friendly and money-saving ♻️
⚠️ Pitfall Warnings (lessons learned the hard way)
❌ Don’t take tricycles from roadside touts, they say 5 RMB to take you to attractions but end up detouring and charging 50!
❌ Restaurants inside Sun and Moon Shell are super expensive, a glass of juice costs 38 RMB, better to buy iced drinks at the nearby convenience store 🥤
❌ Don’t buy Chimelong’s fast track! On weekdays, there aren’t many people, the longest wait is 20 minutes, saving 150 RMB is worth it, right?
💡 Personal Thoughts:
I thought a budget trip would be very restrictive, but it turned out to be super happy! Watching the sunrise by the sea, an old man shared his biscuits with me; sisters I met at the hostel chased the sunset with me… Turns out happiness really has nothing to do with money~ Zhuhai’s sea is very blue, the wind is soft, I’ll come again next time!
