Chi'an Village, located 5 kilometers northeast of Xiapu County, was once an important seaport, named for the reddish color of the rocks along its coast. Legend has it that the village produced the "Eighteen Scholars," a group renowned for their legacy. Wang Wukun, the magistrate of Changxi County, and Lin Ru, the censor of Luoyang, were the founding ancestors of the Chi'an Wang Lin clan.
Chi'an Village was historically one of eastern Fujian's important seaports. Known as "Jintai Port" during the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties, it offered a natural shelter from the elements. Records indicate that "ships from both the north and south converged here," creating a bustling trade of people and goods. The "Fu'ning Prefecture Chronicle" describes it as "surrounded by mountains and flanked by the sea, foreign ships, riding the wind, a single sail, a few dots, could reach the shore in an instant amidst the misty mountains. It was truly a vital and important town, the gateway to Fujian and Zhejiang."
Chi'an Village is renowned in the surrounding area for its legendary "Eighteen Scholars." During the Tang Dynasty, Chi'an was part of Changxi County. Following Xue Lingzhi, the "Kaifu Jinshi" (a contemporary of Li Bai, whose poem "Dreaming of Wandering on Tianmu Mountain" was based on his narration), the village also produced Lin Song, known as "Fujian's All-Talented Scholar." Emperor Xizong of the Tang Dynasty granted the village the title of "Encouraging Confucianism and Promoting Excellence." The Tang, Song, and Yuan dynasties also produced numerous notable figures, including 49 Jinshi, many of whom were exceptional.
