Introducing Luoyang Drum Tower
Luoyang's Old City Drum Tower, officially known as the "Qiao Tower," is located in the middle section of East Street in the old city. Originally built in the Ming Dynasty, it has undergone several renovations throughout the dynasties, boasting a 350-year history. It is a landmark of Luoyang's old city.
During the Qianlong reign, Luoyang County renamed Dongmennei Street to Gulou Street. The Drum Tower originally had a two-story wooden structure, but due to long-term disrepair, it was demolished in 1972 (according to local residents, the South Street and Laoji towers were also demolished around this time), leaving only the large iron bell on the tower, weathered by the wind and sun.
In 2002, the municipal government began to restore the old city's Ming and Qing dynasty style and renovated the Drum Tower's terraces to their original appearance. The Drum Tower, with a history of 350 years, has been restored to its former glory after several renovations.
