Xiaotianchi, located at the top of Xiaotianchi Mountain in the northeastern Guling District of Lushan Mountain, is named after the small pond atop the mountain. Standing at 1,213 meters above sea level, it is the eighth highest peak in Lushan Mountain. The mountain is majestic and lushly green. From the road at the foot of the peak, ascend over 200 steps to the summit of Xiaotianchi Mountain, where you can see a circular pool in front of the temple. This is Xiaotianchi.
The water in the pond is crystal clear, never drying up even in droughts or overflowing in rains, a wonder of its own since ancient times. Beside the Little Tianchi Lake stands the Tianchi Pavilion, built on the foundation of a Lama pagoda. Towering above the clouds, one can gaze out across the vast expanse of Panyang Lake to the east, the Yangtze River to the north, picturesque countryside to the west, and the mountain city of Guling in the clouds to the south.
Watching the sunset and cloudscape from the Tianchi Pavilion is a truly fascinating experience. Sometimes, when the sky is thick with mist, visitors standing with their backs to the sun may occasionally see a colorful halo surrounding a human figure appear on the screen of mist. This halo, known as " precious light " or more commonly as " Buddha light ," appears. Sometimes, when the sea of clouds billows, " waterfall clouds " can be seen, with clouds flowing like waterfalls over the southeastern peaks .
