The core of Gaoling National Mining Park is the Gaoling Ancient Mining Site, located in Gaoling Village, Yaoli Town, Fuliang County, northeast of the Porcelain Capital of Jingdezhen. The site primarily produces porcelain clay, a mineral used in ceramic production. After 1965, the Gaoling Mountain clay mines ceased production after centuries of exploitation. Only a few mining relics remain of the once bustling mining area, a place for visitors to commemorate.
Gaoling National Mining Park consists of two scenic areas: the Gaoling Ruins and Dongbu Ancient Street. Gaoling-Dongbu is one of the first historical and cultural villages in Jiangxi Province. Gaoling is a renowned production area for porcelain raw materials in ancient China and the place where the world-renowned "kaolin" (kaolin clay) was named.
Dongbu was a distribution center for kaolin, glaze fruit, and other raw materials used in Jingdezhen porcelain production during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Known as the "Source of the Maritime Silk Road," it still retains its relatively intact ancient streets, shops, and docks, serving as a filming location for films such as "Red Star." Dongbu Ancient Street is divided into Upper Street, Middle Street, and Lower Street. Paved with bluestone and granite, the streets are approximately three meters wide and lined with shops. Originally, there was a dock on each side of Dongbu Ancient Street; today, only the eastern dock remains intact.
The Gaoling Ruins are the core area of Gaoling National Mining Park. The tour begins with the "Ancient Road." Built during the Song Dynasty, the ancient road is 2.5 kilometers long and 2 meters wide, paved entirely with granite and featuring 5,600 steps. For the past 200 years, miners used this road to carry loads of kaolin clay to the Dongbu Wharf for transport to Jingdezhen. After 200 years of mining, Gaoling Mountain has left behind numerous mining sites, with ancient mine pits being one of its most prominent features. Of the hundreds of ancient mine pits found in Gaoling Mountain, four remain well-preserved.
The climate is subtropical monsoon humid; Gaoling National Mining Park is filled with mining relics of kaolin, the raw material for porcelain making. At the same time, the natural scenery of Gaoling Mountain is also quite beautiful, making it suitable for travel in all seasons.
