Dangjia Village, located northeast of Hancheng City, Shaanxi Province , sits on the northern side of the east-west Bishui River valley . Its gourd-shaped location, commonly known as " Dang Lao ," is the best-preserved village with Ming and Qing dynasty architecture in China. Surrounded by mountains and water, and surrounded by a sturdy castle, it is a prime feng shui location.
The characteristic of Dangjia Village lies in the style of its folk houses, which is a typical representative of Hancheng folk houses. During the Qianlong period, Hancheng was once known as the " Little Beijing " of Shaanxi. Dangjia Village was also known as " Little Hancheng " because of its developed economy with equal emphasis on agriculture and commerce . This shows the prosperity of Dangjia Village in those days.
