Introducing Tongchuan Yaozhou District Museum

The Yaozhou District Museum of Tongchuan City is located in the Yaozhou Confucian Temple on Xuegu Road, Yaozhou District, Tongchuan City. Its predecessor was the Yao County Museum established in May 1984, and later renamed the Yaozhou District Museum. It is affiliated to the Yaozhou District Culture and Cultural Relics Bureau.

The Yaozhou Confucian Temple, where the museum is located, was founded in 1058, the third year of the Jiaku reign of the Northern Song Dynasty. It has served as a temple dedicated to Confucius throughout the ages. The remaining buildings, including the Dacheng Hall, Jimen Gate, Quanxing Gate, east and west wings, and side rooms, form a two-courtyard structure. According to historical records, after its founding, the Yaozhou Confucian Temple endured wars at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and was destroyed by soldiers. It was rebuilt in 1369, the second year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty, underwent extensive renovations in 1476, and expanded in 1492. The Dacheng Hall was expanded from five rooms to seven, with height and scale increased. Through numerous renovations over the generations, it has incorporated architectural styles from various eras, making it a masterpiece of ancient architecture in the Weibei region. On May 31, 1957, the Shaanxi Provincial Government designated it a second-batch key cultural relic protection site in Shaanxi Province. On June 25, 2001, the State Council designated it a fifth-batch national key cultural relic protection site (ancient architecture).
