Yaozi Fanshen, a perilous path that leads from East Peak to Xiaqi Pavilion, is one of Huashan's most famous treacherous paths. The path is carved into a concave, convex cliff face. Looking down, one can only see the cold ropes dangling in the air, but no path. Visitors must face the wall, holding the ropes, and alternately descending the cliffs using their toes to find the rock nests. Several steps require turning left and right like a hawk, hence the name. The Yaozi Fanshen path has been extensively renovated, with deeper footholds and stone steps, and the ropes replaced in many places, making descent from the peak much easier.
