Lianhu Park is located in a low-lying area southwest of Shangzhou City in Shangluo, Shaanxi Province. It stretches nearly a mile from east to west and more than a hundred feet from north to south, covering a total land and water area of 121 mu. The ancient Shangzhou city walls encircle Lianhu Lake to the west and south, and are planted with acacia trees and weeping willows.
Legend has it that Lianhu Lake originated as a garden opened by a Ming Dynasty resident named Huang, named "Huang Garden." By the Qing Dynasty, "county residents built it into a garden, planting lotuses, raising fish, and enjoying fishing. The lake's water was channeled out of the water gate into the prefecture river (Danjiang River)." The Zhili Shangzhou Chronicles records that two heavy rainstorms, in the autumn of the eighth year of the Guangxu reign (1882) and the twenty-fourth year of the Republic of China (1935), caused the Danjiang River to overflow, flooding through the water gate into the city. Lianhu Lake, a low-lying area, was repeatedly inundated, becoming a vast expanse. The expanded surface area became a natural lake, home to fish and geese, and surrounded by red lotus flowers and leaping fish.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, with the vigorous development of the national economy and the growing demand for cultural life among the people, Lianhu Park was gradually restored and expanded. The rebuilt Lianhu Park is exceptionally charming, living up to its reputation as a "natural park." It is not only a must-see for business travelers, but also a place for entertainment for the elderly, children, and young people to spend time together.
The warm temperate semi-humid monsoon climate features four distinct seasons, with rain and heat occurring in the same season, and distinct dry and wet seasons in the summer and winter. Avoid the cold winter and travel in spring, summer, and autumn.
Stroll along the city walls, taking in the panoramic views of Lianhu Lake and the surrounding scenery. The ancient buildings of Hubei's former Confucian Temple are now reflected in the emerald waters. To the east of the lake, there are arched bridges, green forests, and a boat dock. In the northwest corner, a spring named "Ciquan" overflows year-round, forming a lake. In the southwest corner, a spring of unfathomable depths originates from this source, the source of Lianhu Lake's waters. Lianhu Park is divided into three distinct areas: East, Central, and West. The East area features extensive lotus root plantings, the Central area offers a children's playground, and the West area offers boating opportunities.
It is recommended to play for about 2 hours.
