Shifeng Temple, also known as Shifeng Guanghua Zen Temple, is located at the foot of Shifeng Mountain in Baizhuyang, Fu'an City, 30 kilometers from the county seat. The temple was first built in the first year of the Jingfu reign of the Tang Dynasty (892). Emperor Wuzong of the Ming Dynasty once visited the temple and inscribed the plaque "Guanghua Zen Forest" and presented it with a poem that included the lines "Shadows in the square pond stir, fish peek at visitors; sounds drift from the hillside, bamboos sway in the wind."
Renovated during the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1796-1820), the temple covers 13,000 square meters. Facing east from west, it stands majestically against the mountainside. Despite its millennia of history, its appearance remains intact. It is a millennium-old Buddhist temple in eastern Fujian, one of the oldest and largest in the region. The main hall boasts a unique architectural style and is of great historical value, a rarity in China. In October 1985, the Fujian Provincial Government designated it as a second-batch provincial-level cultural relic protection site, as a revolutionary site. On May 25, 2006, the State Council approved and announced it as a sixth-batch national key cultural relic protection site. The temple also houses a rich collection of masterpieces by literati and poets throughout history. In 1991, Zhao Puchu, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of the Buddhist Association of China, personally inscribed the temple's name, "Shifeng Temple."
