Because of its many types of trees, long-term forest growth, vast area, gurgling springs, rare birds, chirping cicadas and birds, and fragrant grass, it is known as " one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Guiyang " and ranks first among urban forest parks in the country.

In April 1960 , when Premier Zhou Enlai visited Guizhou, he was impressed by the lush forests, diverse tree species and spectacular scenery. He proposed to transform the forest farm into a forest park for tourists to visit and to enrich the people's cultural and spiritual life.

The forest park boasts a wealth of resources, encompassing over a dozen forest areas, including catalpa, camphor, pomelo, oak, sandalwood, pine, fir, poplar, and oil-tea camellia. The park also preserves numerous cliff-carved steles. Nearby are the former Guandi Temple, the Reception Hall, and the Ji'en and Keqi Pavilions. Over 20 stone archways stand along the route, the most notable being the " Wanli Fenghou " archway honoring Yang Fang .
