The Guizhou Provincial Museum of Nationalities is located in the South Square of Zhucheng Square, which is located on Yingbin Avenue in Guiyang and Zunyi Road. It is adjacent to the Nanming River, the mother river of Guiyang , to the east, Guiyang Railway Station to the west, and the bronze sculpture of Lusheng on the North Square of Zhucheng Square to the north. It has an excellent environment and convenient transportation.
The museum draws on the charm of the contour curves of the drum tower in the Dong village of Guizhou. It is a three-pronged arc-shaped building. The front arc surface organically sets off the statue of Chairman Mao. The shape of each of the six sides of the building forms a " mountain " shape. The architectural shape focuses on the three connotations of Guizhou, ethnicity, and culture, and is quite representative of the regional and ethnic characteristics of Guizhou.
The museum's collection primarily consists of physical materials related to the daily lives of southwest China's ethnic minorities, particularly the 17 ethnic minorities that have inhabited Guizhou for generations (such as the Miao, Buyi, Dong, Tujia, Yi, Gelao, and Shui). These materials include traditional costumes, silver jewelry, masks, household items, ancient ethnic literature, and other materials reflecting the history and culture of these ethnic groups. The collection also includes audiovisual materials reflecting the political, economic, and cultural customs of these ethnic groups throughout history. The current collection encompasses over 14,000 items.
