Introducing Dade Academy

Dade Academy, located in downtown Guiyang, was originally the Nanjiyun Temple, built during the Yuan Dynasty. It underwent numerous renovations and additions during the Ming and Qing dynasties, eventually becoming the Zhonglie Palace. The courtyard is covered in purple sycamore blossoms, enveloping you in a delicate fragrance.

Today, the academy is a leisure venue that combines a theater, bookstore, and teahouse. Beyond the Zhonglie Palace, past the playground, lies the main site of the former Dade School, a quadrangle courtyard in the typical Ming and Qing dynasty style. The Dade School History Exhibition, housed in the auditorium, showcases how this private elementary school, initially serving only a few dozen students, grew into a comprehensive school with over 1,600 students.

A memorial hall for Wang Ruofei and Huang Qisheng was built in the backyard of the academy. A memorial event is held every April 8th . Flowers presented by unknown people are placed in front of the statues of the two in the courtyard all year round. It has become one of the important bases for patriotic education in Guiyang.
