Liu Tongxinglongzhuang is located in Sanhe Ancient Town, Feixi County, Hefei City, Anhui Province. It was the residence of Liu Jintang, the then president of Sanhe Chamber of Commerce. It covers an area of 700 square meters and has five courtyards, eight wings and 32 rooms.
Liu Tongxinglongzhuang, also known as "Liu's Cloth Shop" and "Liu's Rice Shop," was a prominent merchant on Guxi Street in the late Qing Dynasty. "Tongxinglong" was the name of the manor. Its owner, Liu Jintang (1879-1941), was the former vice president of the Sanhe Chamber of Commerce. He had five brothers. Among them, Liu Jintang and his second brother, Liu Jinchen, lived in "Liu Tongxinglongzhuang."
At the time, the entrance hall was bustling with activity, and Liu Tong's Xinglongzhuang's business flourished, reaching from the Yinshan Mountains in Lu'an in the north to Nanjing and Shanghai in the south. Longzhuang was a two-story wooden building facing the street. The second floor served as a rotating hall, the third as an open hall for receiving guests, the fourth as an incense room for ancestor worship, and the fifth as living quarters, totaling approximately 700 square meters.
Liu Tong's Xinglongzhuang primarily dealt in various cloths and rice. Daily rice sales reached over 500 tons, generating annual revenues of tens of thousands of silver dollars. The shop also operated a salt shop, a porcelain store, and a pawnshop, making it one of the most renowned businesses in the ancient town.
The houses at Liutong Xinglongzhuang embody the architectural style of the Anhui style, combining traditional Chinese timber construction with local Anhui architecture. This unique architectural system features a courtyard between each pair of houses, creating a unique drainage system. This also embodies the business philosophy of "keeping wealth within the family."
Subtropical monsoon climate; the house structure of Liutong Xinglongzhuang has the characteristics of Anhui style architecture in central Anhui, combining traditional Chinese wooden structure with local Anhui architecture, making it suitable for travel in all seasons.
