which city tour?
Does anyone have any recent experience of a city tour?we are visiting in May and I was about to book Old town bus tour but read some negative reports of messy check in/lack of busses. Someone recommended "green bus" but I couldn't find them.Glad of any recommendation:)
It sounds like you're looking for a reliable and enjoyable city tour experience in Savannah, especially since there are mixed reviews about some of the tours. Savannah has a variety of tours, so I can help you navigate through your options based on what you’re looking for.
Here are a few highly recommended tours to consider:
- Old Town Trolley Tours: Despite the negative reviews you've seen, Old Town Trolley is one of the most popular city tours in Savannah. It’s a hop-on, hop-off tour with live guides who offer great insights into the city’s history. While there have been occasional reports of inconsistent service, many visitors still find it to be a convenient way to explore key sites in the city. It’s also one of the longest-running and most established options.
- Classic Savannah Tours: Another popular option is Classic Savannah Tours, which offers a more intimate, guided experience in a smaller vehicle. The guides are often praised for their detailed knowledge and passion for the city's history. They also offer private tours, which can be a great option if you're looking for a more personalized experience.
- Ghost Tours of Savannah: If you're looking for something a little more spooky and unique, consider one of the many ghost tours Savannah offers. These are especially fun in the evening, and they often incorporate both history and the city’s eerie legends. Ghost City Tours is a good one to consider, offering a variety of tours including haunted history walks and trolley tours.
- Green Shuttle Tours: The "green bus" you mentioned is likely a reference to one of the eco-friendly tours, such as Green Shuttle Tours, which operates smaller electric vehicles for a quieter, environmentally conscious tour experience. They’re not as widely known, but they offer a great way to experience Savannah in a more intimate setting. Look for “Savannah Green Shuttle” or similar eco-friendly tours.
- Savannah Walks: If you're interested in a more active way to explore, you could opt for a walking tour. Savannah Walks is a well-reviewed company offering themed walking tours that focus on history, architecture, or even the famous squares of Savannah. This can be a more immersive experience if you enjoy exploring on foot and learning about the city's past.
All of these options have their pros and cons, so the best choice depends on your preferences. If you’re looking for flexibility, the hop-on, hop-off tours like Old Town Trolley are great, but if you prefer something quieter and more intimate, a smaller tour or walking tour might be more your speed. If you’re looking to avoid the larger crowds and have a more personal experience, you may want to consider booking a private tour with one of the smaller providers like Classic Savannah or Savannah Walks.
For the best experience, I recommend reading recent reviews and booking in advance to avoid any surprises, especially in the busy month of May. It’s always helpful to check with the tour company for any updates on their operations, especially if you have specific concerns about availability or check-in processes.
Have a great time exploring Savannah!
