Hi,
My husband and I (30s) are planning on coming to Atlanta for a quick 2 night stay. Arrive Saturday morning and leave Monday night, wasn’t planning on renting a car. I didn’t realise Truist Park is actually outside the city, I assumed it was downtown.
So main priority/must is see a game, we might end up going to two. Both are evening games. Then we’d like to go to the Georgia Aquarium and Jimmy Carter Pres Library.
I’ve read it’s more preferred to stay in Midtown than Downtown. Looking for a hotel for around $150 or less a night. It seems midtown and downtown are cheaper than staying near the ballpark or Decatur. I can get either Georgia Tech Hotel or Hampton Inn Midtown for my budget, any preferences? Looks like GT might be closer to restaurants etc…. I can get the Hyatt Regency Downtown for a good price too but the reviews don’t seem as great. But if we are at games both nights, does it matter?
Do you think we need a car? I’d rather not rent one, either take rideshares or public transport.
Where should we base ourselves? Midtown?
Many thanks
Hi there! A weekend baseball trip to Atlanta sounds like a lot of fun! With just two nights, you'll want to make the most of your time. Here’s my take on your trip and some recommendations:
Accommodation: Midtown is a great choice for your stay, especially given its proximity to restaurants, attractions, and transportation options. The area is lively with plenty to do, and you're not far from the Georgia Aquarium and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. Midtown also has good public transit options, making it easy to get to the ballpark and other attractions without the need for a car.
Truist Park and Getting Around: Yes, Truist Park is outside of downtown, located in the Cumberland area, but don’t worry, it’s easily accessible by public transport, rideshares, or even MARTA. Since you’ll be attending evening games, you can take a MARTA train or Uber to the ballpark from Midtown or Downtown. I’d suggest using Uber or Lyft for convenience and ease. Taking public transit might add a bit more time and involve transfers, but MARTA has a convenient route to the Braves' home stadium.
Do you need a car? No, you don’t need to rent a car. Atlanta’s MARTA system is easy to navigate, and both Midtown and Downtown have Uber/Lyft availability. From Midtown, you'll be able to reach all the major attractions, including the Georgia Aquarium and the Jimmy Carter Library, as well as get to the Braves games without worrying about parking.
Where should you base yourself? I would recommend basing yourself in Midtown. It’s a great location for tourists and has excellent access to dining, entertainment, and public transportation. Plus, you’ll be able to explore areas like Piedmont Park, the High Museum of Art, and plenty of dining spots within walking distance. It’s an ideal spot for a 2-day stay when you’re looking to balance both attractions and convenience.
Summary:
- Stay in Midtown for its convenience, proximity to attractions, and public transport access.
- Between Georgia Tech Hotel, Hampton Inn Midtown, and Hyatt Regency Downtown, I’d recommend either Georgia Tech or Hampton Inn for the best balance of price, location, and comfort.
- You don’t need to rent a car—public transport and rideshares will be enough for getting around the city and to Truist Park.
- Enjoy your weekend in Atlanta and have fun at the Braves games!
Hope this helps! Have a great trip!
