Follow up to my luau question below
Has anyone taken a taxi/Uber/private car or shuttle to a luau? I was checking out the Smith Family Luau, and on their website they have info on transportation. We are renting a car, but having someone drive us there might be a safer option so we can enjoy some cocktails, lol.
Aloha! It’s a great idea to have someone else do the driving when you're planning to enjoy cocktails at a luau, especially for safety. Many visitors to Kauai choose to use taxis, Ubers, or private shuttles to get to and from luaus, as it allows them to relax without worrying about navigating or parking. Here's a breakdown of your options for getting to the Smith Family Luau or any other luau:
- Uber or Lyft: Uber and Lyft are widely available on Kauai, and they can be a convenient and affordable option for getting to luaus. The benefit is that you can schedule your ride ahead of time or request one when you’re ready to leave, making it easy to get to your luau without hassle. For Smith’s Family Luau, it’s roughly a 15-20 minute ride from popular areas like Poipu or Kapa’a, so costs are typically reasonable (around $20-$30 one way, depending on where you’re staying).
- Taxi: Taxis are also available, though they are less commonly used than ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft. You can book a taxi by calling a local service, but it’s always a good idea to have a taxi number handy in case you need one after the event. Depending on the area, fares are generally similar to ride-share prices, though sometimes a little higher.
- Private Car or Shuttle: Many visitors prefer private shuttles or car services for more comfort and privacy. Smith Family Luau offers shuttle service as part of their package, which can be a convenient option. You can book these shuttles directly through the luau website, and they typically provide round-trip service. If you prefer something a bit more upscale or private, you could also arrange for a private car service or a guided tour with transportation included. This can be a great way to ensure you get door-to-door service, especially if you're traveling with a group.
- Rental Car: If you decide to drive yourself, be aware that parking is generally available at luaus like Smith's. However, it’s nice to not have to worry about parking or driving after a couple of cocktails, which is why some prefer the shuttle or ride-share options. It also eliminates the need to deal with parking lot logistics, which can be more complicated at some venues.
If you're staying at a resort or hotel, you might also inquire about concierge services to arrange transportation, as they often have partnerships with shuttle services or taxi companies, making it even easier for you to arrange a ride.
In summary, using Uber, Lyft, or a private shuttle is a popular and safe way to get to luaus while enjoying your drinks, and the Smith Family Luau’s shuttle service is definitely a convenient option to look into. Have fun at your luau, and enjoy your time on Kauai!
