Mountain Tubing In February- too cold?

We will be in Kuai in February. I was wondering if you think that the outside temperatures and the water temperatures will be too cold to enjoy the tubing. Thanks for your advice.

Mountain tubing on Kauai can be a fantastic experience, and February is generally a good time for it, though there are some things to keep in mind about the weather conditions.

Weather in February:

  • Temperatures: In February, the weather on Kauai is mild, with daytime highs averaging around 75-80°F (24-27°C). However, mornings and evenings can be cooler, with temperatures dropping into the low 60s°F (around 16°C). These temperatures are generally comfortable, especially if you’re active and moving during the tubing experience.
  • Rain: February is part of Kauai's rainy season, so you may experience some showers, particularly on the north and east sides of the island. However, most tubing companies operate in areas that are relatively sheltered, and rain often doesn't affect the activity as long as it's not too heavy.

Water Temperature:

  • The water temperature in Kauai’s rivers typically ranges from 70-75°F (21-24°C) year-round. This is fairly warm, but it can feel cool when you’re in the water for extended periods, especially if there's a chill in the air from the rain or cooler winds.
  • If you're concerned about the water being too cold, remember that you’ll be in the water for a short duration during the tubing experience, and the thrill and excitement of the ride often outweighs any discomfort from the temperature.

What to Expect:

  • The tubing experience is usually on slow-moving rivers, which means the water won’t be too intense or turbulent, so you're not likely to feel a lot of splash or cold from fast-moving currents.
  • Most tubing tours will provide a safety briefing, helmets, and sometimes even wetsuits or water shoes, especially for cooler conditions. It’s a good idea to check with the company beforehand to see if they offer any special gear for comfort, especially if you're sensitive to cooler water.

Verdict:

While February can be a bit cooler, it’s unlikely that the weather or water temperatures will be too cold to enjoy tubing, especially if you’re dressed appropriately. In fact, the mild temperatures and occasional rain can actually enhance the experience, making it feel refreshing rather than uncomfortable. If you’re particularly sensitive to cooler temperatures, bring a light jacket or sweater for afterward, but the tubing itself should be enjoyable and not too chilly.

All in all, tubing in Kauai in February should be an exciting and memorable adventure, as long as you're prepared for the elements!
