Need a casual lunch restaurant between Haleakala Crater and

Our group of 7 will be visiting the crater early in the day and want to stop for lunch as we make our way to Lahaina for the Old Lahaina Luau. Casual is great and waterfront even better. Not sure how much time we’ll have in between the crater/lunch and the luau at 530pm but if there will be time to stop at some other cool spot along the way. All suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance

Traveling from Haleakala Crater down to Lahaina gives you a few good options for a casual lunch, especially if you want something scenic or waterfront. Since your group is heading to the Old Lahaina Luau at 5:30pm, you’ll want to allow plenty of time for traffic, stops, and parking. A midday lunch around 1–2pm would be ideal.

Casual Lunch Options:

  • Kula Lodge & Restaurant – Located in Kula on the slopes of Haleakala, this spot offers casual dining with spectacular panoramic views. It’s perfect for a quick meal with sandwiches, salads, and local fare. Great photo opportunities too.
  • Paia Fish Market (Paia Town) – Slightly off the direct route but worth it for fresh seafood, casual atmosphere, and hearty portions. They offer fish tacos, burgers, and plates suitable for families and groups.
  • Flatbread Company (Paia) – A relaxed, waterfront-feel spot (near Baldwin Beach) with delicious wood-fired pizzas, salads, and vegetarian options. Kid-friendly and casual for groups.
  • Leoda’s Kitchen & Pie Shop (Olinda/Pukalani) – A little inland but offers a casual menu with sandwiches, salads, and famous pies. Quick service, ideal if time is limited.

Other interesting stops along the way:

  • Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm – A peaceful, short stop for scenic photos and a quick stroll among fragrant gardens.
  • Makawao Town – A charming upcountry town with local shops, art galleries, and a taste of Maui’s paniolo (cowboy) history.
  • Surfing Goat Dairy – Fun for kids and adults alike; you can see goats, try cheeses, and grab a quick snack.

For your timing, leaving Haleakala around 11–11:30am should get you to a lunch spot between 12:30–1:30pm. After lunch, you’d have enough time to explore one or two short stops before arriving in Lahaina by 4–4:30pm for your 5:30pm luau.

Tip: Check traffic conditions on the way down; some sections of Haleakala Highway can be busy, especially near Kula and Paia. Picking a lunch spot closer to the main highway (like Kula Lodge) can save time and minimize detours.
