Hello, I have reserved a rental car through Costco at the Alamo at OGG I am arriving on the island 3 days before my friend, and I would like to add her as a second driver when she arrives as the fee is waived through Costco.
It looks like on the Alamo site it is possible to add her as a second driver if she physically goes to the counter with her ID but was wondering if anyone else had done this at OGG. I’d like to avoid switching cars and doing a second rental.
TIA! 😄
Yes — what you’re planning to do is both common and generally easy at OGG’s Alamo location. Because you booked through Costco Travel, Alamo waives the additional driver fee for your friend as long as she meets the usual requirements (valid license, same rental terms, etc.). You do not need to start a new rental or switch cars.
At most Hawaii Alamo locations, including Kahului (OGG), they allow a second driver to be added after the rental has already started. The key requirement is that the additional driver must appear in person with their driver’s license so the staff can verify it and update the rental agreement.
Here’s what usually happens and what other travelers report from OGG:
In almost every case, this takes just a few minutes. Travelers commonly do this when someone arrives later, and OGG staff is used to it.
Helpful tips to make it smoother:
You should have no issues keeping the same car for the duration of your trip. Adding her mid-rental is standard practice, especially with Costco/Alamo reservations.
Enjoy your time on Maui — and safe driving!
