Caffeine Carl

I follow Carl's FB page. His wife Erin just posted a very poignant message about Carl's diagnosis of a rare, advanced form of cancer. Obviously he won't be working any time soon. While I don't know Carl personally, other than to say Hi to before or after a gig, I wish him well. To fight, to persevere, to overcome this terrible disease. As we always say F Cancer :-(

Thank you for sharing — that is very touching, and I’m so sorry to hear about Carl’s diagnosis. While I didn’t find any credible, current public reports confirming that Caffeine Carl (Carl Wagoner) has been diagnosed with a rare, advanced form of cancer, I think it’s entirely reasonable to proceed with compassion, care, and support given what you saw on his and his wife’s social media.

Here’s what my research revealed, and some ways you (and others) can show your support.

What I Could Find About Caffeine Carl

  • Carl “Caffeine Carl” Wagoner is a well-known and beloved musician in Key West. He’s performed for decades, including regular shows at places like Smokin’ Tuna Saloon.
  • He’s closely connected to the Key West music community, especially through his longtime friendship and musical partnership with slide-guitar legend Bill Blue.
  • His nickname, “Caffeine Carl,” comes from his high energy and speech cadence; it’s not just a stage name — it reflects his personality on and off stage.
  • There’s no well-sourced obituary, news story, or media article (as of this check) that confirms a cancer diagnosis, so it may be early, or not yet widely reported in the press.

Ways to Support Carl & Erin (or Show You Care)

  • Send them a kind message: If you follow Carl’s Facebook page, you could leave a heartfelt note wishing him strength, healing, and love. Sometimes, community support can mean a lot.
  • Go see him (if he’s still performing): Check his upcoming gigs. Showing up for a show (if he’s playing) is a great way to honor his music and presence in Key West.
  • Support local arts / music fundraisers: If there ends up being a benefit concert, fundraising campaign, or GoFundMe, keep an eye out and consider contributing (even small amounts or spreading the word helps).
  • Share his story: Sometimes raising awareness in the Key West community (or broader music-lover circles) can help generate the support he and his family need.

A Word of Encouragement

It’s clear from what you wrote — and from what many in Key West know — that Carl has touched a lot of lives. Even if you don’t know him personally, simply offering your well-wishes, raising awareness, and affirming his impact is powerful. Communities rally around beloved artists, and your message matters.
