Restaurant Recommendation
Hello. I am looking for a family friendly restaurant near the Lyric Opera House. By family friendly, I just mean welcoming to children, not necessarily the traditional kid friendly menu. My children will eat matzo ball soup or chicken pho, but not american chicken noodle and mac n cheese is right out. So I'm not worried if burgers, fries, and pizza are not on the menu. Are there any moderately priced places you love that you would recommend?
If you're looking for a family-friendly restaurant near the Lyric Opera House in Chicago, here are a few great options that should work well for your family, especially with kids who enjoy more adventurous foods like matzo ball soup and chicken pho. These places are welcoming to children and offer a diverse menu with a focus on flavors beyond the typical kid's menu fare. Here are some recommendations:
- Shalom Grill – Located in the River North area, this cozy spot offers Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes that are both family-friendly and flavorful. You’ll find a variety of dishes like hummus, falafel, and matzo ball soup, which would be perfect for your kids. The atmosphere is relaxed, and it's a great place for a casual but delicious meal.
- Fat Rice – A unique spot serving up the flavors of Macau, Fat Rice offers a variety of flavorful and adventurous dishes such as pho, dumplings, and stir-fries. The food here is full of bold flavors, and the atmosphere is welcoming for families. It’s a bit of a walk from the Lyric Opera, but definitely worth considering for its unique offerings.
- The Purple Pig – If you’re looking for something with Mediterranean and Italian influences, The Purple Pig offers a wide range of options, from charcuterie boards to hearty pastas and braised meats. It’s an eclectic menu that would appeal to adults and children alike. The vibe is casual and family-friendly, and they have an extensive selection of small plates perfect for sharing.
- Mercadito – A vibrant Mexican restaurant offering a more elevated take on traditional fare, including tacos, ceviches, and unique cocktails for adults. It’s located near River North and welcomes families, with plenty of options for kids who enjoy spice and adventure in their meals, without needing the standard American comfort foods.
- Japonais by Morimoto – If your children are fans of sushi or Japanese cuisine, Japonais is a great option. It’s a bit upscale but still family-friendly, with a menu that includes sushi, pho, and other delicious Japanese offerings. It’s a fun experience for kids who are willing to try different flavors.
All of these options are reasonably close to the Lyric Opera House, and they offer great food with diverse menus that should satisfy your family’s tastes. You’ll find that they are all welcoming to children but not overly focused on traditional American "kid's food." Enjoy your time in Chicago!
