new places?

I have not been to Key Wes in 5 years.. what are some new bars and restaurants?

Awesome — Key West has added a number of really fun and tasty new bars and restaurants in the last few years. Here are some great “newish” places (plus rotating new-concept spots) to check out since your last visit.

Notable New / Trending Restaurants & Bars in Key West

  • Bangkok Happy Bowl Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar — Located on Duval Street, this opened in early 2024. It features Thai cuisine plus sushi, and has a garden patio with live music.
  • Square Grouper Bar & Grill (Key West) — Chef Lynn Bell’s concept has finally made its way to Key West (920 Caroline St). The menu includes raw bar items, coconut shrimp, ahi tuna egg rolls, and other island-style dishes.
  • Dorada — This is a newer restaurant at Casa Marina Key West (Curio Collection) doing a “Baja-Med” menu (Mexican + Mediterranean + Asian influences), plus cocktails with a great ocean-edge vibe.
  • Lolita’s Coastal Cocina — Part of the revamped Opal Key Resort & Marina; Latin-inspired tacos, ceviche, cheese boards, and creative cocktails.
  • Elevate Skye Bar & Lounge — Also at Opal Key, this is an open-air rooftop lounge with small plates (ceviche, tacos, cheese) and modern cocktails.
  • La Concha Rooftop Villas & Bar — The newly restored La Concha has a new rooftop bar / lounge that’s elegant, chill, and great for sunset or late-night drinks.

Emerging & Up-and-Coming Spots

  • Mac’s Place — A waterfront sports-bar-style concept with comfort food: smash burgers, wings, tacos, plus salads and vegan fare.
  • Aqua Belle Fusion Food Truck — Not in a fixed building, but a standout food truck serving southern-fusion fare: jambalaya, po’ boys, fried okra — very Key West-authentic feel.
  • Surly Siren Saloon — A new saloon-type spot (at 310 Front Street) with live music, karaoke, chow, and a laid-back saloon vibe.

Bars to Watch / Keep on Your Radar

  • While many new bar guides are still in the works, the Tropicado Mojito Bar at the newly renovated La Concha (per Visit Keys) is a fresh, vibrant spot with tapas and tropical cocktails.
  • If you love garden patio hangs, Bangkok Happy Bowl’s garden patio bar is a must — it’s not just a restaurant, they often host nightly local musicians.

Why These Are Worth Trying

These spots give you a mix of fresh flavor, island vibes, and really different cuisine compared to the “classic Key West seafood + bar” staples. If you’re looking for new and exciting dining and nightlife on your return trip, the places above will offer freshness + the charm that makes Key West so much fun.
