Which Spa for Couples Massage?

Aloha!

Going back to Maiu for the 4th time (without kids this time) to celebrate our 25th anniversary! We've never had a couples massage in Maui and we'd like to splurge and try one this visit.

We've narrowed it down to 3 options: The Spa Montage (Kapalua), The Kilolani Spa (at Grand Wailea), or The Awili Spa (Andaz Maui). We are not staying at any of these resorts, but we'd love a place where we could access and use other spa amenities (like a pool) before or after our massage and a place that has beautiful grounds to walk around after our spa time and that will make us feel like we are getting our monies worth.

We were also thinking it might be cool to get a side by side couples massage outdoor (is it called a hale?), but we don't mind either way whether it's indoors or outdoors. Also, if there is no "couples massage" option, we're also fine getting our treatments separately, but thought it might be nicer to get it together. We don't mind driving anywhere on Maui for a fabulous experience!

We're also open to other suggestions, but we think we've ruled out the Four Seasons (still under renovation), and the Ritz, the Fairmont Kea Lani, or the Wailea Beach Resort as those don't seem to have spa pools. Also none are offering resort day passes for our dates at this time.

We'd appreciate any insights or advice you could share with us. MAHALO!

Congratulations on your 25th anniversary! Maui has some truly exceptional spas, and since you’re looking to splurge on a couples massage with access to other spa amenities and beautiful grounds, each of your options has distinct qualities.

The Spa Montage (Kapalua):

  • Set on the lush Kapalua Resort grounds with stunning ocean views.
  • Offers outdoor treatment options called "hales," so you can enjoy a side-by-side couples massage with fresh air and garden/ocean vistas.
  • Spa amenities include a relaxation pool, steam rooms, and beautifully landscaped walking areas.
  • Montage is known for attentive service and luxurious treatments, making it a top pick for a splurge experience.

The Kilolani Spa (Grand Wailea):

  • Located within the Grand Wailea Resort, which has expansive gardens, waterfalls, and pools.
  • Offers couples massages, although the outdoor “hale” options are more limited compared to Montage.
  • You can use the spa facilities and, if booked with a spa package or day pass, access the resort’s pools and grounds, which are some of the most beautiful on the island.
  • Grand Wailea’s spa is more resort-centric, so you’ll get the full resort ambiance.

The Awili Spa (Andaz Maui):

  • Modern, boutique-style spa with a relaxed, contemporary feel.
  • Couples treatments are available, and there are some outdoor treatment options with ocean views, but the gardens and walking paths are less expansive than Montage or Grand Wailea.
  • The Andaz property is smaller and more intimate, which can be a plus for a private, serene experience.
  • Spa amenities include showers, steam rooms, and relaxation areas; however, it does not have a large spa pool.

Other Considerations:

  • If your priority is an expansive, luxurious experience with beautiful grounds, multiple amenities, and outdoor hale options for a couples massage, The Spa Montage is likely your best bet.
  • If you want a more traditional resort experience with sprawling gardens and water features, Grand Wailea’s Kilolani Spa is excellent, though outdoor treatment options are more limited.
  • If you prefer a smaller, intimate, modern spa and don’t need a large pool or extensive grounds, Awili Spa at Andaz is a solid choice.

Given your desire to access other amenities, walk beautiful grounds, and experience an outdoor couples massage, The Spa Montage at Kapalua would likely offer the most “wow” factor for your anniversary celebration. Booking early is essential, especially around popular dates, to secure a hale treatment if desired.
