Wat Paknam in Bangkok, Thailand has a beautiful green glass pagoda, but it also has a huge golden seated Buddha, which is overwhelming in its power.
As I got closer to the temple, the profile of the Buddha appeared and disappeared, so I thought it was quite large, but when I actually saw it, it was truly amazing in scale.
Wat Paknam is a relatively new temple, and construction progressed during the COVID-19 pandemic and it was completed about a year ago, but when I went to Bangkok in October last year, I had no idea that it had been completed and didn't go to see it, so this time, seeing Wat Paknam is one of the purposes of my trip to Thailand.
Get off at Tha Phra Station on the BL Line (Blue Line) of the MRT (subway) and walk for 15 minutes from the station through the old Thai townscape.
The candy shop was lined with colorful snacks, and it felt like a scene from the early Showa period in Japan. The 15-minute walk in the heat was enjoyable and not too tiring.
There was a guide board, so I followed the route.
Wat Paknam (temple) had a white pagoda, and on the top floor was a green glass pagoda, which was very beautiful, and the ceiling painting inside the pagoda was also wonderful.
There were many Buddha statues and other exhibits on the intermediate floors, which were worth seeing. The altar was also very beautiful.
Also, when you go outside from the top floor, you can see the back of the golden Great Buddha from the terrace.
It was quite a walk from the station, and going up and down the stairs of the pagoda, and above all, it was boiling hot, so I was a little hesitant, but I decided to see the front of the pagoda before going home.
In the end, I was tired, but I'm glad I saw it.
Finally, we stopped at a cafe and then took a taxi to our next destination, the National Museum.
