The train heading to Beitou has built-in filters on the windows. When the MRT comes out of the underground section, sunlight suddenly pours into the carriage, and green begins to flow outside the window - first the tops of the century-old sweetgum trees in Beitou Park, and then the brick-red dome of the Hot Spring Museum flashes between the trees.

As the train slowly climbed the slope, sulfurous smoke from the geothermal valley happened to drift across the tracks, giving the carriage a faint mineral scent. The best part is at dusk, when the lights of the hot spring hotels light up one by one, as if the entire mountain city is stretching out in the hot springs. In just a few stops, the past and present of Beitou are laid out before the passengers.
