Beppu Hell Hot Springs: Deep Blue Sea Hell & Blood Pond

#MarchGoodPlaces2025

"Beppu Hell" is a must-visit attraction when you come to Beppu in Kyushu. You can see the mud, geothermal and hot springs that have been erupting for thousands of years.

There are seven hot springs in Beppu Hell Tour: Sea Hell, Blood Pond Hell, Tornado Hell, White Pond Hell, Stove Hell, Oniyama Hell, and Oniishi Bouzu Hell. Among them, "Sea Hell" is the most worth seeing. If you don't have enough time, you can just buy a ticket to see Sea Hell, which is the most beautiful and costs ¥450.

The Sea Hell is the largest of the seven hells. The spring water gushing out of it is azure blue and looks like the ocean. In fact, it is because there is a large amount of iron sulfate in the water. It looks like smoking sea water, but in fact it is 98-degree hot spring water. It's amazing!

Next to the Sea Hell is a blood-red "Aka Pond" because the water is rich in iron. At first glance, it looks very much like the Blood Pond Hell, forming an extreme contrast with the azure Sea Hell. Both are worth seeing.
