A Mysterious Pond Captivated by Its Vivid Blue

Among Beppu's hells, "Umi Jigoku" is the most famous and known as the "beautiful hell." True to its name, the cobalt blue waters spread out like a slice of tropical sea.

Though the pond's surface is a clear blue, approaching it slowly heats up, revealing a temperature of approximately 98 degrees. Contrary to its beautiful appearance, the water is so hot it's practically intimidating. I was overwhelmed by the power and wonder of nature.

The park is very spacious and boasts many attractions, including a greenhouse where tropical plants are cultivated.

Personally, I find the contrast between the rising white steam and the deep blue pond striking. Despite its name, this mysterious place is actually quite soothing. It's a hell you definitely can't miss if you visit Beppu.
