#BestPlacesToVisitInFebruary2025

The thousand-year-old Borobudur Temple, Candi Borobudur, is the most important world cultural heritage site in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Its unique stepped pyramid structure symbolizes the Buddhist cosmology, representing the journey of practitioners from the earthly realm at the base to the formless realm at the top, signifying the path to Nirvana. It is acclaimed as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

It takes about an hour by car from Yogyakarta city to Borobudur. The entrance ticket costs 50,000 Indonesian Rupiah, and climbing to the top costs 75,000 Indonesian Rupiah (guided tour reservation required). Visitors must change into bamboo woven sandals to enter, which can be taken home afterward.

Borobudur is a seven-tiered stupa, each level featuring corridors with reliefs depicting various Buddhist stories and the Buddha’s enlightenment, intricately lifelike upon close inspection.

The highlight is the top level with 72 stupas, each housing a Buddha statue inside, and a massive main stupa standing in the center, making for a spectacular photo opportunity.
