Let's explore the charm of colonial architecture along the Cha-am sea at "Mr. Maruekhathaiyawan Palace" 🏛️
Mr. Maruekhathaiyawan Palace is a summer palace by the Cha-am sea in Phetchaburi Province. It was built during the reign of King Rama VI. It was designed by Italian architect Ercole Manfredi, who combined European architecture with the wisdom of building a tropical home.
The highlight of "Mr. Maruekhathaiyawan Palace" is the combination of Western colonial art and the gracefulness of Thai woodwork. The building has a Western hip roof, covered with terracotta tiles, surrounded by wooden balconies, simple but elegant geometric columns, and beautifully detailed carved wooden railings. The building is painted in a soft yellow color with dark green edges, creating a very peaceful feeling.
"Mr. Maruekhathaiyawan Palace" is considered an example of sustainable architecture before the era. Despite being built over 100 years ago, the design of Mrigadayavan Palace reflects an understanding of creating a comfortable building in the tropics. The building was designed for a tropical climate, such as a wooden building raised on stilts to catch the wind well, with vents and louvers throughout the building.
If you have the chance to visit Cha-am and Hua Hin, don't forget to visit the beautiful architectural heritage at Mrigadayavan Palace.
