1οΈβ£ Da Shi Temple (Images 1-2)
This ancient temple in central Chengdu, over 1,600 years old, is located near the popular shopping area of Taikoo Li and Chunxi Road. It is where the Buddhist monk Xuanzang resided before his journey to India.

π‘ How to Make Merit: A must-see is to rub the three Chinese characters on the temple's front wall. The most popular character is "η¦" (fu), which means good fortune and happiness. The Da Shi Temple's amulet bracelets are said to be extremely sacred.
βοΈ Highlight: There's a teahouse where you can watch a mask-changing performance while sipping tea.
π How to get there: Take the subway to Chunxi Road Station, Exit C, and walk for about 10 minutes.
2οΈβ£ Green Goat Palace (Images 3-4)
The first Taoist temple in northwest China. The temple grounds are shady and peaceful. Inside, you'll find the Three Devas Pavilion, an octagonal pavilion with nine dragon pillars, over 5,000 years old.
π Opening Hours: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
π° Admission: 10 yuan. Free for children and seniors.
π‘ How to make merit: Two metal goat statues stand in front of the temple. Chinese believe that if you're feeling sick, rub the goats and pray. The ailment will eventually heal and disappear.
βοΈ Highlights: Yin-yang symbols can be seen throughout the grounds.
πHow to get there: Take the subway to Qingyang Palace Station, Exit C.
3οΈβ£ Three Kingdoms Shrine (Images 5-6)
This nearly 2,000-year-old shrine was built to commemorate the hero from the famous Chinese literary epic "The Three Kingdoms." Inside the Three Kingdoms Shrine are three important sites: the Zhuge Liang Shrine, the Liu Bei Shrine, and Liu Bei's Tomb.
π Opening Hours: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Last admission is at 6:00 PM.
π° Admission: 50 yuan. Special tickets available for children.
π‘How to make merit: Chinese people often bring a bouquet of flowers and small snacks to pay homage to Zhuge Liang, along with a letter expressing their feelings.
βοΈ Highlights: Displays statues of important figures and artifacts from the Three Kingdoms era. Inside, there is a beautiful botanical garden. The red walls, popularly photographed by locals, are another highlight of the Three Kingdoms Shrine.
How to get there: Take the subway to Gaoshengqiao Station, Exit A, and then walk for about 800 meters.
4οΈβ£ Wenshu Temple (Images 7-8)
Wenshu Temple, over 1,300 years old, is home to Manjushri Bodhisattva, the god of wisdom. Chinese people often come here to pray for academic success and the fulfillment of their wishes.
π Opening Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
π° Admission: Free
π‘ How to make merit: Light one incense stick and pay respects to the main shrine three times. Then, turn clockwise in all four directions. You can also light an oil lamp to dispel darkness in your life and pray for wisdom and peace of mind. The main shrine, which enshrines Manjushri Bodhisattva, the god of wisdom, is ideal for students and working professionals seeking success. You can also purchase red cloth inside the temple, write your wishes on it, and hang it on the red cloth rack. Believe that your wishes will come true.
βοΈ Highlights: Wenshu Temple offers a variety of vegetarian restaurants, a teahouse where you can learn about Chinese tea culture, and a collection of over 500 ancient Chinese paintings.
π How to get there: Take the MRT to Wenshu Monastry Station, Exit K, then walk for about 500 meters.
5οΈβ£ Baiyun Temple (Image 9)
π Opening Hours: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

π‘ How to make merit: You can pat a horse for longevity, or a stone monkey for protection against illness. For luck in exams, touch the brush in the left hand of the deity at Wenshu Shrine, or rub a peony in your right hand to further enhance your talent. For good fortune, look for the "Money in the Sky," or wishing stone.
βοΈ Highlights: Inside is a large golden statue of the Bodhisattva Guanyin. Locals believe this temple is sacred for granting blessings of good fortune, finances, and prosperity.
πHow to get there: Take the MRT to Huayuan Station, then walk for about 1.2 kilometers.
