Wat Phra Singh Worawihan is a temple of significant historical significance in the Lanna Kingdom.
It is a first-class royal temple, Worawihan type, located within the moat of Chiang Mai City on Sam Lan Road, Phra Singh Subdistrict, Mueang District. Wat Phra Singh
Wat Phra Singh is one of Chiang Mai's most important temples. Inside, you'll find Phra Singh, or Phra Buddha Sihing, an ancient Chiang Saen-style Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture, sitting cross-legged in the diamond meditation posture. Built in 700 CE, it is also known as "Chiang Saen Singh Nueng."
It is also a sacred Buddha image of Chiang Mai and Lanna. Inside, Wat Phra Singh Worawihan is the Vihara Lai Kham, which houses the Phra Buddha Sihing.
Furthermore, the murals depicting Suphannahong and Sangthong, uniquely found here, are also featured. Other notable artworks include the ordination hall decorated in Lanna style, the library hall decorated with stucco angel statues, and a circular Lanna-style chedi.
According to belief, the Phra That Chedi at Wat Phra Singh is considered the sacred relic of those born in the Year of the Dragon (large snake).
