Wat Suan Dok

🏯 Wat Suan Dok, also known as Suan Dok Temple, is a significant royal temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Built in the 14th century (1373) by King Kue Na of the Lanna Kingdom to welcome a revered monk from Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, its name means "Garden Temple," as it was originally a royal garden. The temple's most notable features include a massive golden stupa and an expansive white royal cemetery, which houses the remains of descendants of the Lanna royal family.

The main hall of the temple enshrines one of Thailand's largest bronze Buddha statues and also holds relics of the Buddha. Today, it serves as the location of Chiang Mai Buddhist University, where monks can often be seen studying and practicing. Wat Suan Dok is renowned for its stunning sunset views, with golden light casting over the white cemetery in the evening, creating a solemn and awe-inspiring scene. It is a must-visit destination to experience Chiang Mai's rich history and religious atmosphere.
