Wat Phra That Doi Chom Thong, Chiang Rai
It is assumed that it was built before King Mangrai the Great came to this area and ordered the construction of Chiang Rai city in 1805. According to the history that mentions Wat Phra That Doi Chom Thong, it was built during the reign of King Ruean Kaew, the ruler of Chainarai.
It is a Lanna Bagan pagoda. The pagoda's base is a raised hexagonal lotus base. The pagoda is a lotus tiered bell-shaped body. The top consists of a throne, a segment, a spire, and an umbrella on the top. The pagoda is covered with gold leaf.
The Chiang Rai City Navel Pillar is a stone pillar made of high-quality stone from Tak Province. It was built in the Khmer art style of Phanom Ba Kaeng, based on the hypothetical form of the universe. It faces east. The outermost area is a moat like in the universe. The dirt field next to the moat represents the land. The inner courtyard is raised in 6 levels, which is like the 6 levels of heaven in Kamabhumi. The innermost level is raised in 3 levels, which means the form realm, the formless realm, and Nirvana. There are 108 surrounding pillars.
When paying homage to Phra That Doi Chom Thong, it is believed that if you pay homage and pray, you will have wealth.
