If you visit Chiang Khong, you must not miss paying homage to the Buddha at Wat Phra Kaew, a temple that is a symbol of Chiang Khong. It is very old and houses a relic of the Buddha's hair, which is believed to be very sacred. Importantly, it is located on the banks of the Mekong River, so you can clearly see the view of Huay Xai in Laos. The atmosphere is quiet and shady. There are places to sit and enjoy the view along the Mekong River. Inside Wat Phra Kaew, there is also the oldest statue of Thao Wessuwan in Thailand, which is over 300 years old and the first statue in Thailand. There are Buddha statues and pavilions that are over 1,300 years old for locals and passersby to pay homage to, as well as admire ancient art that is hard to find today.
