Perched on a cliff above Qingshan Lake in Lin'an, Hangzhou, a pure white building seems to grow out of the mountainside, blending seamlessly with the surrounding lake and mountains. This is Yuyan Cliff Lake View Retreat—a secluded haven that perfectly combines modern minimalist aesthetics with natural wilderness.
The architecture features a staggered cantilever structure, with multi-level terraces and open spaces that capture different angles of the mountain and lake views. The contrast between Portuguese beige rock and dark gray aluminum panels creates delicate texture changes in the sunlight.
Inside the 180-degree panoramic suites, Italian Flos bubble lamps float above Danish Boconcept modular sofas, while custom tea sets are cleverly integrated. The bathroom space is truly luxurious: German Hansgrohe rainfall showers create a waterfall bathing experience, with homemade camphor wood essential oil bath salts thoughtfully placed beside the scenic bathtub, complemented by an American King Koil mattress and 80-count Tencel bedding system.
The restaurant champions the concept of "from cliff to table": morning-harvested lei bamboo shoots and Lin'an specialty walnuts form the appetizers, while the chef's molecularly reconstructed Dongpo pork melts in your mouth. The most popular offering is the floating afternoon tea—handcrafted celadon porcelain filled with Longjing tea jelly, osmanthus lotus root powder balls and other Jiangnan tea snacks, placed on transparent trays in the infinity pool for guests to enjoy while swimming.
The amenities strike a perfect balance between wilderness and elegance. The 30-meter infinity pool features a visual zero-boundary design, creating the illusion of merging with the lake while swimming. Hidden in a bamboo grove, the hot spring pool uses natural alkaline mountain spring water, especially romantic when snowflakes fall in winter.
With the guesthouse as the center point, countless secret spots lie within a 10km radius: a 15-minute hike east leads to the ruins of a Northern Song Dynasty general's pagoda, where you can still touch the historical remnants of the Wuyue Kingdom; a 20-minute drive west takes you to "Jiangnan's Little Jiuzhaigou" Taihu Source, where firefly rivers can be seen in July.
At Yuyan, time flows at a different pace. While the city twinkles like distant stars, here there is only the gentle sound of mountain breezes turning book pages and the rhythm of lake water lapping against cliff walls. As the proprietor inscribed at the entrance: "No words needed here, the lakes and mountains speak for themselves."
