The approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is lined with many restaurants and souvenir shops, and is bustling with tourists.

The specialty of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is Umegae Mochi.
There are many shops selling Umegae Mochi on both sides of the approach, so it's hard to decide which one to buy.

This time, I tried Umegae Mochi from Tenmaya.
One is 130 yen.

They also sell souvenir sets.

You can't tell the difference from just one shop, but if you compare the Umegae Mochi from several shops, you can see the differences in the sweetness of the bean paste and whether the grains are there or not, so if you are sightseeing in Dazaifu with a group of people, it might be interesting to buy Umegae Mochi from different shops and exchange opinions.

Umegae Mochi is a popular take-out sweet that has remained unchanged since the old days of Dazaifu.
