Meili North Slope | 7 Days 6 Nights Trekking Route Guide, Encountering Kawagebo

Difficulty Level: Four Stars
Trekking Distance: 40km
Suggestion: Those with limited trekking experience are advised to join a group tour for safety first

Itinerary & Key Tips

DAY 1: Depart from your location to Lijiang
In Lijiang, two recommended spots to watch the sunrise and sunset: for sunrise, go to Baisha Ancient Town; for sunset, visit the open-air café at the top of Lion Mountain. It is recommended to buy trekking meals in advance in Lijiang, enough for four days.

DAY 2: Lijiang to Shangri-La to Foshan Township
Total driving time about 8 hours, with rest stops along the way. You will pass through small towns where you can eat and buy supplies.
Transportation: Bus

DAY 3: Foshan Township to Yagong Village to Price Increase Camp to Bamboo Forest Camp (Altitude 3550m)
Trekking distance 11km, starting from the horse stable in Yagong Village. On non-holidays, you can drive to the trekking start point, reducing 2km.
Take a vehicle from Foshan Township to Yagong Village. Horse caravans carry packs into the village; personal light packing for trekking. The first night is camping at Bamboo Forest Camp. The trail condition is relatively good. Start at 9 AM and arrive around 4-5 PM.

DAY 4: Bamboo Forest Camp to Pojun Camp (Altitude 4250m)
Trekking distance 6km, altitude gain 700m
This day’s route is easy but with high altitude gain. Start at 8 AM, and at the latest, arrive by 2-3 PM. Rest well in the afternoon as the next day you will start crossing the mountain pass.

DAY 5: Pojun Camp to Pojang Camp (Altitude 4450m)
Trekking distance 6km, altitude gain 500m, crossing Ciding Pass (Altitude 4770m)
The closer to the pass, the colder and windier it gets. Do not stay too long at the pass; take photos quickly and descend fast.
The mountain top weather is changeable. We encountered hail during descent. Carry a raincoat with you. At the camp, we helped a girl suffering from hypothermia.

DAY 6: Pojang Camp to Yagong Village to Foshan Township to Feilai Temple
Trekking distance 16km, first ascending 500m, then descending 1600m rapidly
The start is a very steep slope, nearly 80 degrees. Then comes a rolling terrain. The afternoon is a rapid descent, very tough on the knees. Although the forest vegetation is dense, there are many cliffs and landslide-prone sections. After rain, the trail is muddy and slippery. Do not take it lightly.

DAY 7: Feilai Temple to Shangri-La to Lijiang
Check the sunrise time a day in advance. If the weather is good, go to the Feilai Temple viewing platform to see the golden sunlight on the mountain. If foggy, sleep in a bit more. Depart at 9 AM and return to Lijiang before 6 PM.

Meals:
Breakfast and dinner are eaten at the campsites. Campsites have small shops where you can buy water and instant noodles. If on a group tour, the leader will arrange meals.
Lunch is eaten on the trail. Be sure to prepare it in advance as there are no supply points on the route; you must bring your own.
