Xiazhuhu, located in Deqing, Huzhou, Zhejiang, is the largest natural wetland in Jiangnan and is known as "China's Most Beautiful Wetland." Over 600 islets scatter across the lake like pearls, with more than 1,000 channels crisscrossing, forming a unique "water maze" that nurtures over 800 species of plants and animals, making it a true natural treasure.
đźš— Super convenient transportation
Self-driving: Navigate to "Xiazhuhu National Wetland Park." The parking lot has plenty of spaces and reasonable parking fees.
Public transport: From Hangzhou, it takes only 13 minutes by high-speed train to Deqing Station, then about a 10-minute taxi ride to the scenic area; you can also take a bus from Hangzhou North Bus Station to Wukang Town in Deqing, then transfer to bus routes 105 or 302.
🌅 Must-visit spots
Leda Island: As soon as you step on the island, you are surrounded by vast fields of zinnias, as if you’ve entered Monet’s garden. There’s also a stunning Cloud Terrace, perfect for taking photos that will blow up your social media.
Bird Island: A bird paradise where you can see the crested ibis, known as the "panda of birds," plus a science museum. It’s both fun and educational for kids.
Jianjia Island: The island’s dome-shaped thatched houses and reed marshes are poetic. Take a rowboat through the reeds to truly experience the charm of the Jiangnan water town.
🍱 Food you can’t miss
Be sure to try the local fish soup rice, a specialty with over a thousand years of history. The eating method is very particular: scoop, pour, pick, mix, and eat. The fish is tender, and the soup is rich—I can easily finish two big bowls!
🏠 Accommodation recommendations:
Xiazhuhu Wetland Resort Hotel: Located near the scenic area, you can see the lake view right from your window. The environment is excellent, and the service is very thoughtful.
Local homestays: Deqing’s homestays each have their own unique style. Choose one you like to experience the local slow life.
❗️ Tips:
Try to visit on a sunny day for better lighting and more photogenic scenes.
There are few supply points inside the scenic area, so remember to bring some snacks and water.
