Xiqiao Mountain Nanhai Guanyin

Hiking is a must when traveling to Foshan, so I made an appointment with a friend’s family to hike in Xiqiao Mountain. The two children chased each other all the way, which was about ten kilometers round trip, and they completed it independently. They were very happy.

Xiqiao Mountain is located in the southwest of Nanhai District, Foshan. It is a national key scenic spot, a national forest park and a national geological park. Xiqiao Mountain is warm in winter and cool in summer, with an average annual temperature of 21.8℃. The concentration of negative ions in the mountain is very high, and it is known as a natural oxygen bar.

There is a parking lot at the foot of the mountain, which is convenient for self-driving. Tickets to the scenic spot are 53 RMB for adults, half price for children, and free for children under 1.2 meters or under 6 years old. Hike up the newly built plank road, where pedestrian and vehicle paths are separated, so you can let your children run and play without worry.

Climbing up the hundred steps is a bit tiring. In order to encourage the children to climb the stairs, they were asked to count whether there were 100 steps. The children were immediately motivated and climbed up while counting. When they counted to 100, they found that there were still a long way to go. They had already climbed up and did not want to give up, so they continued to move forward.

The air in the forest is super fresh, it is worthy of being called a natural oxygen bar. Although I was sweating profusely, I felt relaxed both physically and mentally. There are waterfalls that flow all year round, and spring water gurgling from caves. Locals say the spring water is drinkable. We collected water in bottles and tasted it, and it was indeed clear and sweet.

The religious culture of Xiqiao Mountain is a combination of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. Baofeng Temple in the scenic area has a history of more than 600 years and is one of the four famous temples in South Guangdong. The buildings in the temple are designed in the style of the Ming Dynasty, simple and elegant.

The Xiqiao Nanhai Guanyin is 61.9 meters high and 36 meters in diameter. It is forged from copper and is the tallest seated Guanyin statue in the world.
