Hokuriku Tour-Fukui Prefecture
Fukui Prefecture is the least popular of the three prefectures in Hokuriku.
The largest cities are Fukui, where the prefectural capital is located, and Tsuruga, located in the south, which is connected to Kyoto, Osaka, and Lake Biwa. The Kanazawa-Tsuruga section of the Hokuriku Shinkansen was opened to traffic on March 16 last year, so the time required to travel to Fukui Prefecture will be greatly reduced in the future. Fukui is most famous for its Echizen crab, pork cutlet rice, and the Tojinbo coast.
It is true that compared to the surrounding Kanazawa, Kyoto and even Toyama, it really does not have many characteristics, but because of this, life in Fukui is more local.
There wasn't much of a tourist feel to it.
Using the Hokuriku Pass 4-day ticket, you can also use the local private railway Echizen Railway Co., Ltd. (Japanese: Echizen Tetsudo Kabushiki Kaishi) in Fukui to go to Mikuni Port. Single-section trams are rare in Japan. Of course, there is also a Katsuyama Eiheiji Line to the mountains, but unfortunately I didn't choose to go there this time because I didn't have enough time.
In addition, early April is the cherry blossom season in Hokuriku. The cherry trees along the Asuwa River in downtown Fukui are very beautiful. Unfortunately, the only drawback of this trip to Fukui was that the weather was not good and the sky was cloudy.
There is also a seaport city at the southern end of Fukui Prefecture. Tsuruga is also the current terminus of the Hokuriku Shinkansen. The Kehijingu Shrine in Tsuruga is also very beautiful.
There is a small commercial complex called Chienamiki in front of the station. It has a very beautiful bookstore and cafe. The Nakamichi Genzo Tea Shop Chienamiki is the store I chose during my break. The matcha is very delicious, and remember to buy some of their tea leaves, which are of very good quality. #Fukui #Hokuriku #Echizen
The reason I came to visit this city was because a work was set in Fukui, which made me realize that there is such a place in Hokuriku.
