Exciting summer vacation Fukuoka Tochoji Temple visit

#Heart-pounding summer vacation

✨️Dongjangsa Tochoji✨️ The head temple of the Kyushu sect of Shingon Buddhism (a Japanese Buddhist sect), the temple's title is Nangakusan (南岳山), and the main deity is Kobo Daishi. According to temple records, it is said that Kobo Daishi, who returned from Tang in 806, prayed for the esoteric Buddhism to gradually spread to the east. It is the oldest temple in Japan built by Kobo Daishi, and was originally built near the beach, but was moved to its current location by Kuroda Tadayuki (黒田忠之), the second lord of Fukuoka. It became a temple with the ancestral graves of the Kuroda family, where the graves of the second lord Tadayuki, the third lord Mitsuyuki, and the eighth lord Harutaka are enshrined, and 300 koku of land and 150,000 pyeong of forest were donated to the temple. It is currently designated as a historic site by Fukuoka City. The Thousand-Armed Kannon Bodhisattva in the temple was made in the Heian period and was carved from a single tree. Despite being a small statue of 87cm in height, it is a Buddha statue with a sense of weight and has been designated as an important cultural property of the country.
