Tochoji Temple (Fukuoka/Hakata)

Address: 2-4 Gokusho-cho, Hakata-ku
Access: Exit 1 of Gion Station
This is the first temple in Japan to be founded by Kukai (Kobo Daishi). The Great Buddha Hall on the second floor houses the Fukuoka Great Buddha, one of the largest wooden seated statues in Japan. Inside the pedestal of the Great Buddha, there is a tour of hell and paradise.
