Located in the heart of Tenjin, Fukuoka City, ACROS Fukuoka is a landmark building that seamlessly blends nature with urban functionality. Its exterior, resembling a terraced green mountain, has become a city oasis admired by many travelers. Completed in 1995, the name "ACROS" stands for "Asian Crossroads Over the Sea," symbolizing Fukuoka's role as a vital connection point between Japan and Asia.
The architectural design emphasizes "coexistence with nature," featuring a stepped aerial garden called the "Green Terrace" on its front facade. This garden stretches from the ground level to the 14th floor, boasting over 120 plant species and approximately 50,000 individual plants. Visitors can walk along the paths to the top and enjoy panoramic views of Fukuoka City, with spring and autumn being the best seasons for strolling and photography.
The building spans from two underground levels to 12 above-ground floors, with a central atrium that is transparent and filled with sunlight, creating a sense of openness. Key facilities include the "Fukuoka Symphony Hall," which seats approximately 1,800 people, an international conference hall, multifunctional event spaces, the "Takumi Gallery" showcasing traditional Fukuoka crafts, and the "Cultural Tourism Information Plaza" offering local travel information.
ACROS Fukuoka is not only a hub for arts and cultural activities but also attracts businesses, shops, and cafes, making it a model of urban green architecture that combines commerce, culture, and leisure.
