This family road trip to Fukuoka with the kids was truly worth it! We picked up our car directly at the airport, eliminating the need to lug luggage around and transfer, and the itinerary was incredibly flexible. Our first stop was Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, where the kids ran around and enjoyed themselves eating umegae mochi (plum cakes), while the adults also enjoyed the romantic atmosphere of the ancient temple. We then drove to Uminonakamichi Seaside Park. The park is huge, and we rented bikes that the kids had a blast riding. There's also an animal park and rides that made us want to stay awake.
We stayed at a family-friendly hotel with parking, and it was so relaxing to soak in the hot springs together in the evening. The advantage of driving a car is that you can change your route at any time. For example, we made a sudden detour to Itoshima to see the ocean, and found a seaside cafe where our family enjoyed a sweet treat while watching the sunset. It was such a joy!
Driving in Fukuoka is incredibly convenient, with clear roads and accurate navigation. Traveling with children doesn't require any traffic restrictions; you can stop and play as you please, enjoying the fun and freedom. This trip left us with many precious memories, and I'd love to bring my kids back to explore even more of Kyushu's beautiful corners!
