Chen Family Temple
Guangzhou's Chen Family Temple is a representative building that culminates the traditional architecture and decoration of the southern part of China in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. Consisting of a large courtyard, corridors, and several pavilions, it was originally the ancestral shrine and study space of the Chen family. Rather than a temple, it is closer to a folk art museum boasting sculptural beauty.
The exterior walls and roofs of the building are filled with gorgeous ceramic decorations, wooden sculptures, and brick reliefs, and their exquisiteness is breathtaking. The hands of hundreds of years of craftsmen live and breathe on each wall. In particular, the ceramic sculptures on the roof tiles are incredibly delicate when seen up close, making you want to look back again and again. The interior is decorated with traditional furniture and various Guangdong cultural relics, allowing you to experience Guangzhou's deep-rooted aesthetic sense and living culture.
A must-visit place if you want to feel the quiet classical beauty in the city. Even if you have no interest in history, the overwhelming decorative beauty is worth seeing in its own right.
