Located on a hill in Motohakone by Lake Ashi in Kanagawa Prefecture, the Narukawa Art Museum is a private museum showcasing a collection of modern Japanese paintings gathered by businessman Mr. Narukawa. Opened in 1988, the museum may be small in scale, but its highlight is undoubtedly the observation lounge.
From this lounge, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Ashi, Mount Fuji, and the iconic water torii gate of Hakone Shrine, making it one of the best scenic spots in Motohakone. In recent years, the museum has seen an increase in inbound tourists, with many Chinese visitors arriving early in the morning.
While the observation lounge is free to access with the admission fee, the adjacent tea lounge "Kisetsufu" is highly recommended for enjoying delicious cakes and coffee while taking in the views.
